Wise Employment are currently recruiting for a Lead Engineer to join one of our industry leading clients in Gateshead. This is a full time permanent role working Monday to Friday (37.5 hours) and offers a competitive salary of £45,000 to £54,000 per annum depending on experience.
Our client is seeking an experienced Lead Engineer to provide Design Engineering solutions to their manufacturing and aftermarket operations along with refining existing product designs in their general production and specialty products.
This role will see you leading a small team to complete designs, detailed drawings, models and calculations for quotations. You will also act as the expert for engineering matters on specific projects to satisfy customer requirements.
This is a key role within the Engineering organisation and you will be required to have a strong understanding of engineering design and manufacturing practices. You will be able to plan and execute on many levels in order to provide cross functional support and the correct level of customer interface.
It will be your responsibility to report any design changes which may have a cost or schedule impact to the relevant project personnel. You will be required to submit Technical Requisition documents for subcontracted or sub-vended engineering scope and ensure that document numbering and revision control procedures are followed.
You will support other departments including other members of the engineering department and also travel as required by the needs of projects and the business needs (this could be approximately 5% of the working hours).
Duties and responsibilities
You will be required to lead and mentor a team of engineering personnel and design new products in accordance with relevant specifications, company quality procedures and industry standards. The initial technical review of client requirements and specifications to define engineering design inputs will be your responsibility. You will be tasked with producing and checking engineering documents (drawings, models, technical illustrations, reports, manuals, Bills of materials and also calculations) along with basic layouts for design, ensuring completion within agreed timescales.
You will be required to attend design review meetings ensuring commercial awareness and answer any internal and external product line technical queries.

In order to be successful in the role you will need a HNC/HND in an Engineering discipline or equivalent as essential along with experience of leading design projects within multi-disciplinary teams and mentoring engineering reports. You will have working knowledge within a manufacturing environment and have an understanding of ISO9001. You will be confident with hand calculations and knowledge of design codes and have strong computer literacy including MRP/ERP systems experience.
